Where do we go from here?

A global pandemic has wreaked havoc in families and communities across the United States, further placing some at greater risk for adverse outcomes. Black and brown communities and now a growing number of other groups are facing present day dilemmas rooted in history when there was less accountability and digital documentation; a time in when diversity, equity and inclusion was neither policy or practice, nor politically correct.

We are at a crossroads as a nation. Either we are going to go back to when America was a “great nation” for some and clearly not for all, or move forward to create a more “perfect union”. Personhood and personal freedoms remain the topic of the day, Our current reality, however, is that COVID-19 is but the latest example of a history of health disparity in the United States and around the world. This, coupled with mounting social dis-ease, can both be tied to unequal justice, unequal protection under the law, and an abuse of power.

Our Current Twindemic

COVID-19 & Health Disparities

  • COVID-19 disproportionately affects people and communities of color, and older people with pre-existing conditions.

  • Vaccinations among underserved communities of color lag behind white communities, all across the United States.

Social Dis-ease & Abuse of Power

  • Research shows that people with a darker complexion are more likely to have an adversarial interaction with law enforcement resulting in a negative outcome than people with lighter complexions.

  • The history of “community policing” and the pattern and practice of flagrant abuse of power in communities of color needs to be addressed for us to heal and move forward.

  • While violence is not the best way to resolve conflicts, powerful nations, such as the United States have a history of justifying violence in the name protecting “American interests”.

  • We must reconcile this history with present day social dis-ease by addressing race, racism and real remedies.

Does social and emotional wellbeing matter much, and if so, why?

Social & Emotional/Mental Health

  • Monitoring our physical and emotional wellness is an expression of self-care, particularly for those who have been historically marginalized and negatively impacted by the myth of one race being supreme to another.

  • It OK to seeking help on how to optimize our coping skills, problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Doing these things is a sign of prioritizing your mental health and general wellness.

Introducing….

The Celebrate Life Project!

In collaboration with our partners and sponsors, the Here’s 2 Life Foundation has initiated a multi-pronged project that connects music, media, and mental health as our response to the twindemic of COVID-19, and mounting social dis-ease.

  • We believe that now is the time to creatively connect the dots by extending a lifeline of health, hope, and healing.

  • Our target audiences are diverse and include children, youth, adults, and families as stakeholders.

  • Additionally, we are bringing together stakeholders from the arts and sciences communities, the tech industry, government, community, and faith based organizations to build working alliances that help illuminate pathways to wealth and wellness for all.

  • Celebrate Life highlights the powerful connections between music, media, and mental health while also promoting health and wellness and supporting leaders and movements to measurably improve literacy and community investments.

This project consists of events, services, and digital platforms that enable businesses and organizations to thrive!

Seven artists perform over nineteen tracks, fusing contemporary gospel, jazz, reggae, Hip Hop, spoken word, pop, and world music.

Deliver Us’ and ‘Believe’ are examples of something new....a new genre called “inspirational soul”....it blends spoken word, rap, and melodies with message of hope that awaken the spirit and the soul.

Great song, really refreshing.
